Is country music more approved than any other for a witness?
by wordlywife inmy husband has recently started listening almost exclusively to country.
occasionally we would listen to it before, but every time i get in a car he has driven or we are riding he has it on, when before we always had classic rock on.
i don't mind country music, but this recent change of listening habits in light of his having commenting priveledges back again makes me wonder if listening to anything but country is frowned upon by wt ordinances?

The only music that is not frowned upon is the Kingdom Melodies. Any other music is considered worldly.
I've actually been to JW parties as a teen where nothing but the Kingdom Melodies were played.

The John Denver Issue, vote now.
by londoner inthis is for those of you who sent me a private message saying you dont believe me, your letting your old jw traits come out, you know, not believing things when the facts stare you in the face unless it comes from the org.
maybee you should go back and re join them.. to confirm what happened .
i was at a john denver concert in the uk many years ago, he asked all catholics to stand up, after he got them seated he did the same with church of england, then the same with a couple of other religions, after he asked all jw's to stand up he announced that the concert would not go on untill they had all left and he then left the stage.

I searched Google and Google groups on John Denver and Jehovah's Witnesses. Google didn't come up with any hits, but I found an interesting twist to the John Denver story.
a JW district convention in Denver, CO, a JD concert was scheduled for that
evening. The concert had nothing to do with the convention earlier that day. As
the stage crew began to setup things, curious Jehovah's Witnesses lingered after the
convention (I too would linger and investigate whether I could purchase tickets).
Apparently JD noticed the problem of having people without tickets not leaving the
arena and on mike, asked 'all Jehovah's Witnesses to vacate their seats and leave
the facility'. Something to the effect of, 'Are there any JWs in the audience?
Would you please stand? Now would you please leave?'
Just do a search for John Denver Jehovah's Witnesses in Google Groups. It should be the second article under the results

Is this the mother of all anti-jw discussion boards?
by truth_about_the_truth ini've seen a few other ones but this one seems to be the most active.
by far the most interesting and diverse.. there's another one out there on e-watchman but found that one to be quite cheezy.
everyone overuses emoticons for some reason over there.

A young MS brother was on his way to the KH for Saturday morning field service. He was running late, but was anxious to get there because the visiting Circuit Overseer was in town and he wanted to impress him. As he was driving like a bat out of Hades he get's behind an old man in a hat driving slow. The old guy just wasn't keeping up with traffic and our young brother was having a hard time getting around him. When he finally got around him the young MS gave an obscene gesture at the old geezer as he blew past him. The brother gets to the hall and is just stepping inside when the old geezer pulls into the KH parking lot. Yep, you guessed it....it was the CO. The young finger-gesturing brother was deleted as an MS at the following meeting.
I actually remember that one. That story was used to on the platform many times. I used to whisper to my friends that if you are going to flip off anybody on the road, make sure they ain't driving a Buick.
I used to flip off all the elders and CO all the time. They never saw me though......

What's up with the biblical story of drunken Noah?
by melmac infrom http://www.straightdope.com/mailbag/mdrunknoah.html.
dear straight dope:.
genesis 9:20-25 seems to be one of the strangest stories in the bible.

So maybe Jehovah should have just told us what happened so we as imperfect humans did not have to "speculate" as to what happened.
That's because Noah didn't have a Judicial Committee to get all the juicy details on what happened.

Green Bible/Black Bible...?
by Gill incan any one tell me what the 'significant differences' are between the old green bible and new black bible?.
having been a jw for almost forty years i never knew of a difference except that my mum is the only jw i know who still uses one.
is it possible that i could show her anything 'interesting'?

I think the pink songbook was called "Singing and Accompanying yourselves with Music in your Hearts" or something along those lines.
I always thought that the green bibles were for identifing newbies and those who were studing. Green bible and the paper type pink songbook were for those who were new in the "truth".
Once you were in for a while, you "upgraded" to the Black bible and the "Deluxe" Pink songbook. -

Beatles or Rolling Stones Fan, which were/are you?
by eyeslice inperhaps you have to be one of those who grew up in the 60's to really appreciate this thread, but then my kids love 60's music too.
who did you think were the best, the beatles or the rolling stones?
is there a bit of a psychological angle here too?

Jimi!!!! There's a red house over yonder, that's where my baby stay's.
Lord there's a red house over yonder, that's where my baby stay's
I ain't been home to see my baby,
In 99 and 1/2 days.
I'll never forget, my wife and I went to get chicken from Popeyes and went through the drive thru.
I had that wonderful blues song Red House blasting from the car stereo, wife and I both in leather jackets and shades, just grooving to this fine, fine music while waiting for the chicken. All the young kids who worked at Popeye's had to come over to look at these two 40 something year old "farts", just jammin out to some fine music. They had to ask what song that was and who sings it. So, hopefully, I turned a couple of the younger generation onto Jimi.
Also, Can't forget The Who. Just watched Tommy today. World's first Rock Opera.
